Who first invented music?
Actually no one ever invented music, because music has been around as long as human existence goes. Music is a form of art, pieces of noises or sounds for example from the wind, birds singing and sticks rubbed to each other. The word music derives from Greek, mousike, which means "art of the Muses". ("The Muses in Greek mythology, poetry and literature, are the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science and art.")
Music was never invented, music has always been here. Looking out in nature and listening you can hear lots of different sounds. Some sounds sound better when put together. Together different sounds create an art, art which is called music. Today we have lots of different genres in music, to check out the most popular genres click here. (These genres is based on sales of singles, record albums, compilation-albums, downloads and music videos.)
But the question is not "Who invented music?", rather it is "Who first realized that the world is so filled with music?". Well, I guess the answer is the same, because music goes far back as human existence and maybe further than that too.
What is music?
This question is perhaps hard to answer, it's like asking what is a chair? You would probably say an object made of metal, steel, wood with four legs and a backboard. But that doesn't seem like an satisfactory answer, because you want to know what a chair is for. Well, you can sit on a chair to rest your body and sometimes your mind, you need a chair, but not always, to sit on when waiting for someone. Therefore maybe the question actually is:
What is music for?
Music has lots of purposes. You hear music everywhere you go. When watching a movie or TV, using your portable device for music, walking in a mall you hear music. Depending on where you hear music, it has different purposes. In movies and TV the purpose is to create a more dramatic scene, to make you understand that maybe something bad is going to happen or it is used to build up the tension. In a mall music is used to make you feel less stressed so you can walk slowly and take your time when shopping. But in the 00-century, which we live in, we mostly have our own devices to listen to music we prefer and sometimes depending on what kind of music we listen to, our footsteps move to the rhythm of the music.
The rhythm of the music makes us also want to dance and dancing is just another part that has become a part of the music. As music goes far back as human existence, so does dancing. Music and dancing is connected and when we dance to the rhythm of music, we feel different kind of feelings. We feel relaxed, excited and most importantly, we enjoy yourself.
Music is one of life's great gift and I personally can't live without music. Everyday I leave my home, I make sure I haven't forgotten my iPod, because without it my daily life becomes very boring. Music gives my life a drama, my life becomes like a movie, besides, music makes it easier for my brain to think or to study.
"I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we all are touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music." - Billy Joel
Music is also a common language for different cultures, different people, different beliefs to communicate, because all music is beautiful.
